Graham Coombs left this review about Comptons

A classic old Soho gay pub with lots of dark wood giving a rather dark interior, brightened by some glitzy lighting. Lounge bar upstairs and various 'entertainments' during the week. Just London Pride on handpump, which the rather shaggy, vest-wearing barman suggested I tried first as he thought it was off. It decidedly was but he didn't seem willing or empowered to take it off sale. Sadly only worth visiting to say you have been.

Dating from the early 19th century as the Swiss Hotel, this famously gay pub, erected in 1890 and has been Comptons since at least the late ‘80s, at the heart of Soho’s gay community.
I’m not sure if I’ve been here before, but this was to be the third of my four-hole crawl of Soho’s gay pubs. The interior is dark and mysterious though is seemingly impressive; I’d loved to have seen it in its heyday, though it was too packed to explore. It’s also the full Frankie in here, with a drag artist on high acting as DJ from a pulpit, with very loud music and a glinting mirror ball. Customers were surprisingly mixed, many looking like they’d just come from the office, though some were very camp.
There was ale here up to a point, with Pride (obviously), me going for a Peroni, price forgotten like the drink itself, which I couldn’t be bothered to finish.
This place probably isn’t going to make it onto the ‘must visit’ list for most or even into the GBG, but it’s an interesting peek into Soho’s vibrant nightlife.

One room with the bar in the middle, plus a room at the back. Two hand pumps - London Pride and the other reversed. An obvious gay pub.

Reasonable sized gay pub with a dark interior, no real ale on, when I looked in.

Quite dark and gloomy with loud music.Large horseshoe shaped bar.Busy and slow service.i presume this is a gay bar.Usual keg beers and 2 handpumps with only the house beer on.Westerham-Comptons Coxs.No mention of what,s coming soon on the other pump. One pun is enough I suppose.
