Rex Rattus left this review about The White Horse

The White Horse is right on the main road next to Epsom General Hospital, so perhaps gets some passing trade due to its proximity. As well as me, there was also another chap in there sinking a swift pint before visiting the hospital, in my case before visiting time starts at 3.00 PM. There were three pumps on the bar counter, two unused and the third dispensing Old Peculiar. This must be one of the strongest draught ales around, at 5.6 ABV. The pint I had was superb, and at a very reasonable £2.90 a pint. The pub has changed hands again, the new guv’nor having been there for around four weeks. He said that he is trying to turn it into a proper pub again, after a somewhat chequered recent past, so all power to his elbow. He says that unfortunately he doesn’t currently have the trade for more than one real ale, so it’s not going to become a real ale Mecca in the near future, but certainly has the potential to become a decent little pub. Apparently the single ale on offer is to be rotated – I timed my visit well as the next ale on was going to be Courage Directors.
It’s pretty basic inside with a couple of settles and a handful of standard issue tables and chairs. There’s a room at the back containing a pool table, and another small room on the right with a couple of tables and a dartboard. It’s very much work in progress at the moment – literally, as there was an electrician doing some wiring in the main bar. I found it to be a friendly and welcoming pub, and It would be interesting to see how it is faring in a few months’ time.

Worth the slog uphill from the station in the summer heat, a pleasant bright and welcoming place. Hancocks HB, St Austell Tribute, Brains SA, Batemans XB, Adnams Explorer and Abbot Ale on today. A side room contains a bar billiards table and juke box, there is a piano in the L shaped main bar. A seperate rear room was set up for a party later on. The rear walled garden is pleasant with a decked area, the remainder grassed. Generally traditional table and chair seating with a couple of chesterfields by the front entrance. Papers and board games available. Leaflets in the bar advertise jazz on Thursdays but an earlier post says different so probably worth ringing ahead. A beer and cider festival is advertised for 22-25th August.
Opening hours should be noted, Monday 6-11 and Sunday 12-9. Rest of the week 11-11/12. No food Mon and Tues according to the sign showing the hours. Free WiFi available for those who need to take their laptop to the pub with them.

A very pleasant surprise – a pub in Surrey where the ale is £2.50 a pint (with a note on the wall apologising for the recent price rise!) and served in dimple mugs! Lovely. Four ales on the go on my visit (OSH; Caledonian Tried and Tested; Titanic Steerage and Batemans Hooker). Pub also runs an ale connoisseurs club, nice touch! Ticks a lot of other boxes; big screen TV's for sport and good food available – slightly posher pub food than usual but still fairly affordable – served well and tasted nice. Service was friendly, beer garden a bit of a sun-trap and well fenced for the kids.

Enjoyed my visit and would like to get back here soon. Proof of what can be done with inventive management and a bit of effort.

First a bit of honesty - I am one of the owners so I am little biased.

Instead of telling you how good we are I'll tell you what we offer and you can come down and make your minds up;

- Four regularly rotating Real Ales at £2 per pint.
- Homemade British pub food, sourced from local suppliers and prepared by a Rosette calibre chef.
- A pretty beer garden with an enclosed play area.
- Live music on Tuesday evenings with some of the biggest names in Jazz in the UK, and Sunday afternoons from 2pm with local star Duncan Eagles
- We are non-smoking and family friendly (games, colouring, kids meals).
- We raise alot of money for the the local hospital and schools with various fund raising events.
- free Wi-Fi internet access.
