The Nelson Tavern has banquette seating to the right of the entrance where there’s also a fireplace in the right hand wall. In the fireplace is a vase full of twigs. To the left of the entrance is a double sided chimney breast that separates two small seating areas along the front windows. There’s a pool table in the left rear and more seating in the right rear. The L-shaped bar in the centre of the rear wall supports six keg fonts with a mix of standard and premium products. There are also two hand pumps, one was unused and the Wychwood’s Hobgoblin was in good condition. During my recent Tuesday evening visit there was some background music playing to lots of pissed up locals. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit here again, but I’d maybe pop in if passing.

A non descript pub from the outside, but rather better on the inside, although it's still a bit shabby. The toilets were closed for renovation, so maybe the whole pub will get a facelift. It's effectively all one room, but the area to the left of the bar has a pool table and the area to the right has large speakers and a giant TV. There's a quiz machine and the wallpaper facing the bar is the stupid stuff with fake books on it. The one handpump was serving Theakstons Lightfoot. They offer a 20p per pint CAMRA discount as well. My beer was just about OK for Theakstons Lightfoot, which is pretty bland stuff anyway. It's not great, but it's much better than the nearby Town Hall Tavern.

Its a nice enough pub just up the road from the Town Hall Tavern. An open plan corner pub. No real ale on. At least its tidy.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Nelson Tavern

Quite a plain-looking building, and although mostly basic inside there is some tiled flooring and a few other decorative features. 'L'-shaped bar with a side room and pool table. Just one of the two handpumps was working, and it doesn't seem the sort of place to sell much real ale, but I had a serviceable pint of Caledonian Flying Scotsman (£2.50).

Popped in here for a swifty to fill a forty minute layover at the nearby station. Subsequent browsing reveals that this is supposed to be a popular pub with students at the nearby FE college. I can only imagine that there must have been a heck of a party going on somewhere else as the four of us more then doubled the number of customers (one bloke drinking Guinness and two lads playing pool) and that at 8PM an a Thursday evening. It is a fairly basic L-shaped single room affair which would withstand the depredations of large numbers of students, but there's little to attract the casual punter. No real ale, but the Guinness was good and cheap.
