First impressiosn are of a neat, brick built pub. But after a good look round you begin to realise that it's a bit shabby and not that clean either, in fact the toilets were filthy. Given that the landlady/barmaid was sat reading a magazine when I arrived I'm guessing that sheer laziness plays a part here. 3 rooms, one behind each other, two of which have a dartboard. Lots of low wooden beams and a small yellowish lamp in each corner. There are 4 handpumps with 2 on serving Hobgoblin & Bombardier. The Bombardier was in very poor nick and as I didn't have any chips with me I decided to drink it. Luckily I'd only had a half and I didn't manage to finish that. Lots of potential here, but currently setting very low standards and failing to meet them.

A small looking pub the stretches out. Sadly on this day your beer would've been better shaked on your chips. Crap.

The bar is to the side on entering, the room steps up twice as the building runs up the hill resulting in a semi-divide into three areas. TVs in the rear and centre, the rear showing football and the centre horse racing on Saturday afternoon. Mostly carpeted, there are a few blackened timbers around but purely decorative not authentic. Horse brasses, a couple of football pics (Stockport County and Man Utd), traditional banquette, chair and stool seating. Three handpumps, Pedigree, Hobgoblin and one unclipped. There is a bit of nostalgia provided by the pie warmer behind the bar, other food is served at very cheap prices, eg sausage, egg, beans and chips for just £3.50 but I can't vouch for the quality.
This is a fairly basic down to earth side street pub of a type increasingly rare, good to see a few in enjoying a chat while watching the match or the horses.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Little Jack Horners

Compact three-room pub, with a split-level layout. Just a few tables in the front part, with a couple of steps up to the bar in the middle section and a few more to reach the rear lounge. Traditional furniture and plain decor. Small side patio. Three of the four handpumps were working, offering Black Sheep, Hobgoblin and Pedigree (£2.80, served in the right glass but rather indifferent).

This small pub was a Wilsons tied house in what seemed a fairly quiet area in Stockport town centre.
I had a drink of Wilsons bitter and this was a decent drink.

Pub visited 18 April 1989.
