A large, rather generic pub. Open plan but with a few distinct areas to sit. There were 3 handpumps that I could see but sadly these were dispensing a couple of rather dull nationals. The Crown is nearby and that is your better bet for real ales.

Not such a nice place to call in full of out of work, won't work, never have work, and what's work people very loud and f-ing and blinding every other word very intimidating if on your own.

But on the bright side had a good pint of Timothy Taylors Bolt Makers will not call in often

Large pub that has been opened up into two big rooms. The one at the rear is particularly barn like. It looked a bit bare when I called in late on a Friday afternoon as there were very few customers in a very large space. Four handpumps, but only 3 beers on and they weren't from micros. I had a pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord, which was pretty average and was a lot more than £2.05. I very much doubt if I'll ever all in here again, with all the competition in Stockport.

Its good to see The George open again (from Sat 17th March). This large pub has been an ideal meeting place for me for forty years with its central position in Mersey Square. It used to be a Higsons pub years ago (the only one in Manchester). It could claim to be authentic to the brewery's logo of "Real Merseyside Bitter" as the start of the River Mersey runs just a few yards from the pub.
Now selling a range of regional and micro Real Ales at just £2.05 a pint.
