Quite a good Spoons in a nice conversion of an imposing building, extending over several levels with lots of dark woodwork. The Covid screens are a bit distracting but hopefully will be gone one day, otherwise quite pleasant. Three different-style beers from Rudgate were on offer along with the usual stuff.

Not a bad Spoons. I have been here loads of times but for some reason have never left a review before. Twelve Real Ales with a decent selection. Worth a visit.

This JDW is set in an imposing old building that was originally the Scarborough Liberal Club. Although the pub is only set on the ground and first floors of it the whole building was clad in scaffolding. I asked a member of staff if it was earmarked to become one of their hotels and he said that they were just fixing some windows on the first floor. Frankly I didn't believe him as why on earth would they clad the entire building in scaffolding just to do that?
I made three visits here mid week in February so it never got rammed and seemed to be ticking along nicely. It's an old school Spoons with the old blue and gold plastic signage outside and lots of wood inside. It's a roughly square room with another bar and area above that I didn't investigate. It's got a fairly typical mix of furnishings.
The downstairs bar has two sets of six hand pumps which had no doubling up, no spurious ciders and nothing Available Soon. The beers available were the JDW Trio Of Doom, Old Hooky, Gadds No 3, Quantock Wills Neck, Goddard's Fuggle Dee Dum, Peerless Lottie Dod, Summerskills Tamar Best, Wold top Wold Gold, Truman's Runner and Purity Gold. I got to try the Gadd's No 3, Fuggle Dee Dum, Wold Gold and Lottie Dod over my three visits (all £2.29) and apart from a haze on the Gadd's all in reasonable nick. My only criticism is that all nine guests were from the national list with nothing from smaller local microbreweries.
I thought this was a decent Spoons.

Ok Wetherspoons near railway station, on two levels, quite large but seems very busy. Usual set up inside

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Lord Rosebery (JD Wetherspoon)

Substantial building with quite an attractive façade including an array of hanging baskets. Square-ish bar with a small raised area at the back. Sensible height ceiling with large windows so reasonably light inside. Much less obvious is the similarly-sized upstairs bar (not always open). 12 beers on handpump, including Nick Stafford's Nightmare and Arundel Wild Heaven (both 2.35), with most available in both bars. Called in twice over the Camra AGM weekend, and much preferred the second visit when the first-floor bar was an oasis of calm compared with downstairs.

Called in for one on Wednesday. Service was quick and friendly and my pint was in good nick as was Ms CAMRA's glass of red wine. The tables were being cleared efficiently, so, all in all a decent visit. It's being turned round is this pub.

Somewhat improved from our last visit. We've been in Scarborough a couple of times since last time we called in here and have avoided it as it was rubbish.

However there would appear to be a new manager (or someone has given the old one a good slap) and the place is much better. Friendly, efficient service, clean tables and a decent pint. Please keep it up guys.

If this isn't the worst Wetherspoons in the country it's certainly making a gallant bid. Tuesday lunchtime, every table dirty and sticky and it was reasonably quiet. The useless pink haired git behind the bar only had 3 people at the bar and managed to serve a person who arrived after the rest of us first, we walked out. Total crap, avoid it.

Gill Smith left this review about The Lord Rosebery (JD Wetherspoon)

Came in for food and a drink. Not a lot of choice on the bar so chose a couple of halves of Hobgoblin. First they didn't want to accept CAMRA voucher as it was 2 halves, so I said put them in a pint glass and we'll share. He took the voucher. Instead of telling me how much he wanted he proceeded togive me change even though I had coins in my hand to pay him. OK we had a laugh about it. The beer though was tasteless, and I know it is usually ok as we had an excellent one in York the day before. Food was ordered and curry fine, but the desert wasn't on so he decided to put a dearer desert on without telling us. Someone sorted it out for us but not good service here at all, and beer a bit iffy.

Large Wetherspoon's opposite Scarborough railway station. On my visit there were several local brews on offer and every one that I tried were in very good order and of course at a very reasonable price and staff were very friendly.

Paid a visit whilst waiting for the train home and not mpressed. Usual Spoons offers and a good range of beer when you can get it! only 2 people serving and as a result long waits for drinks and pot luck as to when you would get served. Tables not being cleared, toilets not clean all in all a poor advertisment for Spoons.
