"The Weir" is not as weird as it sounds..! It's a gem of a pub, hidden well away from the hubbub of Walton town, along the Thames tow-path, a mile or so from Walton bridge. (And what a 'new' & splendid bridge it is now!) So if you're walking along the river, or visiting the sports/leisure centre nearby, do pop in and sample the wine/ale/food. It's a bit different to your usual high street hostelry. Try it, you might like it! I do :o) TJ

Superb riverside setting, with the large terrace to the front running right down to the towpath. Inside, the main bar is an attractive mainly carpeted room with a carved bar back and all sorts of brass and copper objects on display on the walls and along a high shelf running around the room. Additionally I spotted a model train, replica ship and some form of deer or antelope skull complete with antlers. As well as the main room, there is a small quiet area which returns behind the bar, plus another room a bit like a library with full length bookshelves along one wall. Further decor includes framed hunting and river scenes. Seating is traditional in style with comfortable red banquettes and stools, the colour matching that of the lower walls. The dark coloured ceiling has coving and a feature band coloured gold. The centre fireplace in the bar is now bricked up but it serves as a useful space divider.
Four handpumps, Sharp's Own, Abbott and TEA, one being unclipped. There is a decent looking menu and there were plenty of people partaking on Thursday lunchtime, eating al-fresco and enjoying the unseasonably good weather. An excellent pit stop while walking the river path.

Excellent Thames-side location (tucked away behind leisure centre if coming by car). Good for refreshment break, especially for boaters/walkers, but somehow lacks atmosphere.
