Despite its name this is a large and fairly upmarket eating house which feels more like a small hotel. The bar area still seems to attract a clutch of drinkers, while a couple of plush side rooms are tabled for diners. Out at the front is a large tabled area nearly fronting the river, but sadly interrupted by the traffic system. Two handpumps were badged Doom Bar and Pure Ubu but both had run out on this visit late evening.

The Hole in the Wall is a decent sized pub that is close to the river.
Once inside the bar faces in what is now a modern looking room which is bare boarded, there is tall bench seating opposite the bar and normal tables and chairs elsewhere, there is a dining room upstairs.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of St Austell Tribute, which was a decent drink, the other beer was Doom Bar.
Food was being served, but did not take over the ground floor area and background music was playing, the pub was very busy with a mix of drinkers and diners on my late Saturday afternoon visit.
A decent enough pub to have a drink in.

A quick stop before the last few minutes trudge to Temple Meads. The building claims C18th origins though how much of that remains is perhaps up for debate. The name derives from the hole through which drinkers would watch for the approach of pressgangs operating around the harbourside. Inside is a two-tiered interior, fairly staid and inoffensive décor with a semi-formal dining emphasis and accompanying lounge muzak. To the front is a paved and grassed seating area with views of the swing bridge and St Mary Redcliffe church. Three ales; Butcombe Bitter and Rare Breed plus my choice of Woodfordes Flagondry (which was in good nick). Price-wise, it was interesting to note that the Bitter was a wallet-friendly £3.10 whilst the others were 50p+ more expensive. Collection of board games spotted. Pleasant enough place if passing and the sun’s out to enjoy the garden.

A good sized pub at the edge of Queen’s Square, with good views across to Redcliffe Church. It’s been re-modelled many times over the years, and now has a slightly chain feel to it, but it’s a pleasant enough place even if it hasn’t got much in the way of genuine character.

The main bar area has wood laminate flooring, a couple of sofa’s and some unusual tables made out of old beer barrels with a copper top. To the left was another bar, this one with slate flooring and a stone fireplace. To the right, a narrow carpeted room runs along the front of the pub with a sofa at the far end, and behind this, a larger open room more geared up for dining. The decor was the usual shade of gastropub green paint, and there were some exposed stone walls. Upstairs is more seating and another bar, although this had the feel more of a restaurant and was apparently not in use on a recent Monday night visit. A table by the large windows gives good views of the river and church. There also a decent amount of outside seating, although you get the feeling of being stuck in the middle of a traffic island with cars whizzing around in all directions.

Beers on tap were Fuller’s Summer Ale, Butcombe and 6X. Ciders were Aspall’s Suffolk, Strongbow and (fortunately) Ashton Press. A black board listed the “coming soon” beers.

Unlovely Beeheater which is a shame as the pubs has a wonderful history. The pub name refers to a lookout (which still exists) for sailors avoiding the notorious press gangs operating in the harbourside.
