Steve Segar left this review about Egerton Arms

February 2014. Party of 17 pre-booked and pre-ordered. It was early evening on a Saturday when our group arrived and we were warmly greeted. Table was reserved and once they were aware we had arrived they got on with cooking the meals. The actual pub is extremely large and part has been siphoned off as a Jones's Deli where freshly made bread and country produce can be purchased. The atmosphere was very cordial and the plethora of staff were working well to ensure everybody enjoyed their meals. The food arrived and was good sized portions and cooked very nicely. At the end of the meal there were very few plates left that still had food on them. So you ask why only 5 stars? It's all to do with value. Yes the meals were very well cooked and the service was very efficient but the prices were all on the excessive side. Starters, main meals and deserts were all priced towards the top end of that expected for traditional pub grub (and that's what the food was) but the biggest disappointment was the price of drinks. I know Alderley Edge with the footballers and WAGS belt is not too far away but really the bar prices were extremely extortionate. Two lager shandies and a lemonade was over eight pounds and so it was no surprise that anybody having a second glass was ordering tap water. Unfortunately, it was this element that sticks in the mind most and spoils what is a very comfortable and atmospheric abode.
