I have visited this pub for lunch a couple of times with my small walking group. The experience was not a pleasant one "people skills "are lacking to the point of rudeness. The food was poor too.
Today we decided to lunch elsewhere and just have coffee at The Gun.We arrived after a good walk, went straight to the pub and opened the door.
The greeting from.2 miserable faces was "we're not open"obviously we were a little early but there are ways of doing and saying things.
We did not bother with coffee and won't be returning to this pub for anything
We lunched at The Chequers a bit further along the walk the food was great and the welcome very friendly what a contrast!

Visited here last week. Had been recomended it by friends for lunch. On going to the bar my husband was rudely told to hurry up if he wanted food. We ordered very quickly! Served by a girl who had left her smile behind somewhere. Just finished when we were told to finish our drinks outside the pub as he was closing! Very rude staff, very unhappy customers, would not revisit.

My friend and I visited the Gun Inn on a weekday lunchtime. Firstly the barman had no "people skills" and to my mind was very rude. I asked to pay on a debit card and he insisted on keeping my card behind the bar, something I refused to do (the Banks are always telling you not to do this). I was told "this is Keyhaven nothing will happen to it"! When ordering the food, I tried to be friendly, and he did not even answer me. Our food arrived, which was very nice, but the chef/server was extremely rude to people who had moved from the garden into the conservatory saying "you did not tell me" and " if you would get out the way so I can get your food". Excellent food, but expected Basil Fawlty to appear! They need some training!!!!!

Located on the shingle bank, behind Hurst Spit, this is the most westerly Public House, within hailing distance of the Solent.

The menu has lots of superb local fresh crab and fish on offer, together with a broad range of modern pub food.

However something has happened to the Gun. The sign at the front door, banning prams and pushchairs, for what is the only pub after long walk, perhaps is indicative of a non welcoming attitude that saw a hostelry more empty than it should otherwise havebeen. This should be a focal point of the villagers and sailing community, but sadly this appears not to be so. march 05
