A good supporter of real ale this pub is a friendly place. A bit worn out as noted but aren't we all? I only went in the small front part where 9 handpumps were to be found dispensing 6 beers on this afternoon visit. I liked it.

Brilliant pub that continues to excel. It's had a bit of a spruce up recently. Large array of cask ales spread over two rooms. Mixed clientele, real fire, frequently changing ales, all well kept. We call in every time we're in this part of Salford which is about 4 times per year.

Called in yesterday for the beer festival and it was crowded with a lot of cheery banter. Thought the music a little loud for the occasion when there a lot of people in to chat about real ales making conversation difficult at times. Friendly staff and good cheap food will make it popular when festivals are not on I imagine. Interesting features in the rooms. Plenty of beers to choose from and cellar runs too.

This pub has been in the good beer guide for 23 years, which is longer than any other pub in greater manchester !Great beer ,Good cheap food and free music make it difficult not to use !! Beer garden proving popular now we have some decent weather. This is definitely my favourite pub in the country, next to a train station just adds to its appeal!

This is probably the finest cask ale pub in greater manchester! A selection of up to 16 hand pulled beers make this a must visit! Position opposite Salford university campus, equidistant from salford crescent station and salford station, walking distance to manchester, together with the excellent home cooked food (esp curry night on wed)at a price that make you smile (all around a fiver)no wonder it is packed !
Friendly bar staff (ex students)and regulars give it its unique ambience and individuality . THe added atraction of regular live music in the Annexe,(which is autominous)next to the main area just adds to its allure with Manchesters new Artists acheing to book the FREE Venue with a capacity of over 100 !you wont be disappointed !

After several visits to this pub i finally found it open on the 3 August 1995.
Once inside i went in a fairly long narrow room that ran across the front of the pub, this room had a musty smell and the seating looked like it could have done with a good clean.
The pub was operating as a free house and there were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Robinsons bitter and this was a decent enough drink the other beers were Matthew Brown bitter and Marstons Pedigree.
The pub was empty on my late afternoon visit and i was very dissapointed with this pub.

Pub visited 3/8/1995
