Grand looking exterior but a functional light wood panelled Spoons inside with a classic gloom-as-you-zoom layout with little natural light permeating the rear. L shaped bar, guest cask either side with some being unavailable. Due to the large queue and just one person behind the jump I just pointed at the first one I could see, Lymestone Stone Faced, which was slightly Spoons long pour but decent enough (NBSS 2.5). Slow and faintly chaotic service meant I decided against a return visit for dinner.

On a day trip to Kings Lynn I popped into this one for a swift half purely for research purposes before heading to the micropub round the corner.
Internally it’s cavernous and a standard spoons decor and fit out and no redeeming local features over most of the standard ‘Spoons to indicate where you possibly are. In fact the only feature of any merit is the large secluded beer garden out the back that overlooks the River Ouse, making this a viable option for a decent alfresco pint on a fine day. Fortunately I had a fine weather day in the Lynn and could utilise this as mine was a lunchtime visit and the usual ‘Spoons lunchtime demographic were inside taking advantage of the cheep laminated card of edible delights and cheep drinks options.
The two banks of five pumps on different sides of the rectangular bar had the usual trilogy of doom offerings, but fortunately alongside these were a couple of Woodforde ales in Nelsons Revenge Bitter and Bure Gold, plus Green Jack LGM1 and Nottingham Brewery Supreme Bitter.
I didn’t think this was a particularly good ‘Spoons, but unfortunately it does provide one of the best option for choice of ales in town. There are some pleasant pubs but outside of the small micro ale house round the corner and the Live and Let Live, which is a bit of a walk away, I wasn’t excited by any of the other options I took a look at.

Despite my arrival at this place there was no Police presence at all. The fact that it is or was a Lloyds would explain the grief mentioned below. I failed to look out for any tell tale signs of it still being one but it's open until midnight all week with no late weekend opening.
Inside it's a huge sprawling room with the bar roughly in the middle. The room retains the original ceiling and has some wood panelling which makes it a bit more attractive than many outlets. However, the rest of it is all fairly typical.
The bar has ten hand pumps but the choice was limited. The IPA version of the JDW Trio of Doom an d Exmoor Gold Export were doubled up leaving just Three Castles Heritage and Purple Moose Ysgawen. I went for the Gold Export which was in excellent nick.
Overall I thought this was only slightly above average.

Probably the most Jeckyl & Hyde Wetherspoons I have experienced. The initial signs were not good. We were actually staying in the hotel and I popped down for a quick pint at about 7pm, all calm and peaceful. We left to meet some friends at the Lattice House and then made our way to the Crown & Mitre at 8.30pm. There were already police vans outside the Globe and one person spreadeagled on the floor with a copper's foot firmly entrenched on his back. Welcome to Saturday night in Kings Lynn. At gone midnight we returned but with a healthy throng of police cars eyeballing the place I had no desire to set foot in the bar, even for a desperate last pint amongst the ear shattering music. Luckily we were staying in a “quiet” room which did manage to reduce the noise to a mild earthquake.
I half expected to wake up Sunday morning to find the windows boarded up but Sunday breakfast was taken amid a serenity that made the previous evening seem quite surreal. We did a round of the town before a lunch time meet up back at the Globe and the place was now packed with families out to make the most of the Sunday roast (they don't have the usual Sunday club dinners here but have their own carvery which judging by the queues inside is very popular).
As for the pub itself, it is huge and seems to go on forever but the décor etc is pretty formulaic throughout. There are a few high backed pews for a bit of intimacy but generally it is all quite open and impersonal. There were 2 guest beers over the weekend of our stay, neither of them anything to write home about (Nethergate Holy Smoke and Bath Spa). The blandness of the interior is in contrast to the massive but well maintained beer garden that stretches down to the Great Ouse where the waders and gulls dip for food as the tide recedes. From the riverside terrace, it is actually quicker to hop over the wall and get a pint in the Crown & Mitre than it is to do a round trip to the Globe's bar.
The bottom line is that if it is a sunny day, the Globe is worth a visit to enjoy the views from the garden. If it is the evening, especially the weekend, the place is not even worthy of a peep through the window.
On the non pub side of things for those who are planning to stay at the Globe, we did found its facilities clean and tidy and as good as any other budget hotel. Service and reception was very good and if a rowdy Saturday night is what you are after, you get a card that lets you into the bar from the hotel area so you will avoid the queues and bouncers!

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Globe Hotel (Wetherlodge)
One of the better pubs in Kings Lynn (not hard), despite most of the real ales being unavailable for some unexplained reason. Surprisingly, much cheaper than the nearby Wetherspoons (the Lattice House).
