Roger Button left this review about The Rose & Crown

Most pubs that serve the local Railway Station appear to be little more than functional outlets that are there for convenience rather than to trap the adventurous pub goer and the Rose & Crown seems to fit in with this assessment

The mundane interior has been modernized with a minimalist approach, bare floors and a trendy lounge section with leather tub chairs. It is largely aimed at rock music fans with loud music and occasional live bands (posters were advertising ex-Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton at the time of my visit) although for a prime time Saturday night, the pub didn’t seem to be attracting much of an audience of any kind with just half a dozen punters milling around.

Beer wise it has the usual Greene King pub limitations with IPA and Olde Trip being the options to me (a further pump with Abbott was off. The quality of the Olde Trip was fine and at £3, decent enough value compared to other pubs in town.

I didn’t initially have it down as a pub worth visiting and my visit was merely to kill 20 minutes before catching a train. Whilst it certainly catered for my needs at the time, I would guess that most people use the place under similar circumstances.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Rose & Crown

Smallish pub near the railway station. Part modernised, with tall stainless steel tables and chairs in one part of the pub, but lower traditional window seats and tables elsewhere. Friendly landlord, but not so sure about some of his customers. Only Greene King beer, but the IPA was nice enough.
