Whilst the grey painted exterior made me wince it’s actually a lovely pub inside, modernised but with intrinsic character. There’s a tiled porch, leading to several spur areas with a high standard of maintenance; the banquette seating by the large bay windows is the place to be. Eight mainly local cask which made me nervous on a quiet Friday afternoon, however I had very good pints of Bradfield Farmer's Blonde (NBSS 4) and Bank Top Flat Cap (3.5). Other offerings from Saltaire, Bank Top, Cloudwater, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylor (no sign of the previously-mentioned Chapel St Brewery). GBG’23 listed and rightfully so. As someone who’ll now be a semi-regular visitor to PLF over the next few years, I’ll look forward to popping in after alighting the train.

On my visit to Poulton found all the open pub spot on and this was no exception, which had a team of friendly staff and 10 cask pumps on the go.

A Sunday evening visit in early April.Lively, with many screens in operation. We sat in the little snug to the left and admired the tiled ceiling. A daunting array of handpumps on the bar, together with the usual keg suspects.I particularily enjoyed a DDH Pale from Saltaire; my compadre was less enthused by his Bradfield Farmer's Blonde. We missed the fact that the pub supports an onsite microbrewery, which was a failure on my part.Enjoyable pub.

A very impressive looking stand alone building when you arrive into Poulton up from the train station and when you enter the pub it gets even better. The main internal features for me was the front room on the left of the main entrance and the rear back snug, both of which had lit open fires.
There was also a range of ten ales across ten pumps on our visit, three of which were from their onsite microbrewery named Chapel Street. I went for the Chapel Street Blonde, which was superb along with a few others. The barman was very welcoming and chatty and one of the regulars told me he had been visiting this pub since 1959. Looking forward to another visit at some point to spend a good few hours supping.

This is a pub that's been GBG listed for years and since 2014 has been the home of the Chapel Street brewery. It was busy on my Wednesday evening visit so that and lack of time meant I didn't have as long to stay as I would have liked.
It's a roughly rectangular room with a wooden floor and a mixture of seating.
The bar has a huge set of hand pumps, fourteen I think with beers from their own brewery and guests (I noted Bowland and sadly Doom Bore). I went for the Chapel Street Winter Ale (£2.70 after discount) which was in first class condition and better value than the pint tried in the town Spoons.
I'll give it a strong 8 that may well get upped if I get the chance to return.

A cracking pub just down the road from the station. A large building in traditional pub style. Basically open plan with a few offshoot drinking areas. 14 handpumps serving 9 cask ales and a cider. Recommended.

I visited Poulton-Le-Fylde on a Tuesday 22/07/2014 and I found that due to local licensing laws all places that sell alcohol on that day & date only were closed. This pub dates back to 1907 when it replaced the original which was pulled down. There is plenty of choice of real ales at the bar, along with other draught beers. Real ales being Thached Best Bitter and up to 6 Guest Ales. Check out www.thatchedhousepoulton.co.uk for further info.

Good beer. Plentiful and well trained staff (rarely wait for more than a few minutes even when they're 4 deep at the bar). Very full evenings....which loses it the 4th star.
