At present, the "White" is the only pub in this small town. The nearby "Red"(Lion), closed for two years, should rejoin it in the Summer due to a recent planning application.
On my arrival at the White on Saturday lunch (pre-footy match), there was only one customer and the Landlord present. The main bar room is quite dark with not much natural outside light. The TV near the bar was showing the "early match" (Burnley v Tottenham). There is a pool room to the left of the bar and a smart lounge to the right, both served from smaller bar hatches. The only cask ale was Doom Bar which was in good condition for its type.
Arriving back late afternoon (post-match) the bar had started to fill up with Welsh rugby fans who were watching the first match, (France/Scotland). By the time the two local football teams arrived, all rooms had filled to capacity. My team, Plas Madoc FC were in high spirits as we had just won the Welsh National League Div 1 Championship.
By the time Wales v England match started, this pub, empty at 1.30, was now packed to discomfort. I was the only person to cheer after the England try! After Wales two tries, the place was very noisy and the Doom Bore had long lost its appeal. A quick pint of Guinness to remove the taste and I left the scrum for my train.
