The Horse and Jockey is a nice old quaint pub with thatched roof and tall chimney. it is long and thin with a short L-shaped bar counter to the left of the entrance in the front of the pub. Banquettes run around the walls and there are table with stools and also a barrel for leaning. At the rear of the pub, to the right of the entrance, is a small open plan seating area and there’s a snug around the back of the bar. Back music was playing off the jukebox and the televisions throughout were showing ‘Homes on 4’, also with sound. The bar supports three handpumps and the two operational pumps were drawing Robinson’s Unicorn and Thatcher’s Stan’s Cheddar Valley Cider. Standard and premium keg was also available.
The standout memory of this pub was the terrible service. The young barmaid was rude and clueless. She short changed me by a pound and then made a song and dance about it when I pointed it out. She ended up putting 50p together from the tip jar to try and make me feel guilty about asking for the correct change. I still ended up 50p short. The governor was barking orders at the staff via a walkie-talkie forgetting that he could be heard by the clientele. He came across as an arse. The toilets were an absolute mess and there were ashtrays full of fag butts on some tables after they’d been brought in from outside and not put away. The pub itself has character, but it is appallingly run.

Long, attractive thatched building (C.17th) that stands out in the blandness of Wrecsam town centre. The interior goes a fair way to living up to expectations - a very traditional feel open plan area at the front, a warren of little nooks and crannies with an almost lounge at the end with banquettes, exposed brick and vaulted ceiling. Sadly this nice little pub was spoilt by an awful morose barmaid, terrible music and a general feel of despair. We wondered whether the regulars might live in the banquettes like coffins, so numerous were they before midday. Three pumps with two on, Wychwood Dirty Tackle and a pretty good Tetley (NBSS 3.5). It’s a bit of a default visit in the context of the town I guess.

A really nice pub right in the shopping area of Wrexham. Real ales available. Had a standard issue old bloke moaning away in the corner last time I was in. Also has low beams. Ideal for cracking your head against if you're not paying attention.

If you ever visit wrexham for the first time, make your way first to this very old welsh pub in the town centre, it looks out of place in a busy town like wrexham, looks as if it should be in a little village, its thatched roof and low ceilings inside the building, give the place a unique atmosphere, nice beer and friendly staff, a couple have worked there for nearly twenty years.
