Steve C left this review about Golden Lion

The Golden Lion is a long and thin dimly lit pub with a couple of pool tables at the front, a bar counter with seating midway along and more seating at the rear. The bar supports standard keg. There’s a jukebox that was off due to no other customers so no money had been put in. The televisions were also off when live football was being shown in most other pubs. The service was polite, but cash only. This old coaching inn has character, but I got the feeling that whoever is running it has fallen out of love with the place. I think someone with a bit of passion could turn this place into a decent pub. Alas, in it’s current form I don’t plan on revisiting.

A long, thin pub that's usually quite dark. Pool tables are to be found at the front of the pub with the servery in the middle of the place. Low beams are all along the pub. No real ale though there is a solitary unused handpump.

The Golden Lion reopened on the 7th November after more than 12 months closure. This long narrow, Grade 2 listed, pub has been refurbished to a high standard but traditional decor. The promise of Real Ale has been kept with locally brewed ales from Sandstone and Plassey breweries, in addition to Sharpe's Doom Bar and Tetley bitter (expect range to change). Lunchtime food is served from the Carvery and evening food restarts at 5.30pm.

The pub has been bought by the Eureka Pub Company and is due to reopen in November with the promise of locally brewed cask beer.

A very friendly pub and customers always a nice pint when I visit, and good old music coming from the juke box there, the pub looks much bigger than it does from the outside, very long building you have to walk along a long alley way to reach the main doors.
