Alan Hurdle left this review about Wine Vaults

The Wine Vaults is actually like two separate vaults. The heart of the place is the main bar which dominates the smaller of the two rooms. This cosy dark boarded room is where (mainly) men chat around the bar. The larger room, also dark boarded, is served from a side hatch and is dominated by a pool table.

UPDATE Feb 2024 - Old photos show the pub as a Robinsons house, but it is now a Free House.

Now under new management apparently. The pub itself hasn't changed though there are fewer Robinson's beers on the six handpumps. In fact of the 4 that were on only 1 was a Robbie's, the others being Rev James, Phoenix Arizona and a cider called Philosopher.

A decent friendly pub. From out front you can watch people come and go and there's a view of the hills.

This is a pub I had visited before on my only other stop in Ruthin over three decades ago. My only recollection from then was that the Robbies Best wasn't that great.
It's a basic local boozer with pool and darts on the left as you enter and on my Wednesday evening visit footbore being shown on the right, mainly being watched by the landlord. I found a spot to park myself in the games area away from the TV where I wouldn't disrupt the pool.
The bar has six hand pumps but only Robinson's Unicorn (formerly known as Best) and Wizard were on. I tried both (£2.90) and they were first class. The Unicorn was the best pint of it I had tried for many a year.
Despite my dislike of TV sport and pool this was the best of the three pubs visited in Ruthin.
