Country pub situated in a scenic location and on a bank overlooking the Llangollen Canal. Inside, the pub has a couple of rooms and a traditional rural feel. You enter in a bar area and there is also an adjacent dining room. At the front of the pub, there is a small outdoor patio looking out over the main road and to the canal.

2 real ales were on - Black Sheep Best Bitter & Purple Moose Madog's Ale. I ordered the latter, but the barman didn't seem too keen to serve it to me, as it was the end of the barrel. Not wishing to have the Black Sheep instead, I persuaded him to let me have it and it was in fact still in a perfectly fine condition and befitting of a pub that finds itself in the 2024 Good Beer Guide.

In prime rambling territory, this would make a decent stop off if out and about enjoying the lovely local scenery.

Good beer, good food, good location. Located on the A539 half way between Llangollen and Trevor, the Sun is a decent sized two room roadside pub with a main bar area as you enter and a larger dining room off to the right. Fairly standard pub food menu with all the usual favourites and the Leek and mushroom pie was a particularly good vegetarian option.
The bar supports two real ale hand pumps and Stonehouse Brewery Station Bitter and Purple Moose Snowdonia Ale were on for our visit. We tried both and they were both in top condition.
There is a sizeable outside space that was probably beefed up during the Covid pandemic as along with the few tables to the front of the main entrance, there is now a large marquee on the garden area to the left and additional covered space to the right of the pub.
A nice feature for the guys is the imaginative upcycling of old beer barrels in the gents, something that my good lady sadly reported wasn’t repeated in the ladies.
The pubs location is also ideal if you are walking this section of the canal from Llangollen wharf to Trevor basin or vice versa as it is smack bang in the middle and an ideal spot for rest and refreshments before carrying on.

We called in here for a meal and found the food to be very good. Friendly service. The Three Tuns bitter I had was excellent. All in all a good pub and well worth a visit.

This is a great pub to relax in. The pub consists of 2 rooms with the side room aimed more to diners. The first room you enter is where the servery is. There were 2 real ales on and in the summer there is a beer garden with a fantastic view of the hills to the right of the pub. Lovely.

A large 300 year old pub looking down on the A539, the Llangollen canal and the River Dee but looking up to the mountains on both sides of the valley. The bar area with with inglenook fire has limited seating but leads to a larger restaurant area. The pub is handy for canal users mooring just across the main road. Real ales served at the bar are often from local micro brewers. Meals served all day until 9.00pm
