Surprised that nobody has made the Gerry Rafferty reference, so I will; this is a number 2 to his number 1. Boom-tish. Bright, modern and unmemorable interior, so unmemorable it appears that I made no notes. I do recall it was doing a brisk trade with a 50/50 spilt between toping and eating. Owned by Belhaven/GK and is GBG’24 listed, Untappd tells me I had Caledonian Deuchars IPA (NBSS 3.5) and Strangers Brewing Nectar (3), I’m also fairly certain there was a GK cask as well. Not a place to get the pulse racing but executes what it does competently and it was good to see a somewhat adventurous cask range. 6.5

This is a former Belhaven pub in the centre of Stirling, opposite the ‘Spoons and Brewdog outlets, but is now under the inevitable care of Greene King. The pub looks like it’s going to be a bit of a barn from the outside, but it’s actually quite a modest size with plenty of partitioning throughout to break things up and create some relatively cosy spots here and there. You enter into a bare boarded space with the servery along the left hand wall. The bar has a smart dark wood counter and white tile bar back with a TV screen above showing a muted news channel. Opposite, the partitioning walls suggest a former multiple roomed layout and create nice seating areas where chairs, stools and banquettes compete for your attention under some pretty smart dark wood panelling and large timber beams. Whilst the pub offers a reasonably comfortable environment in which to enjoy a drink or two, the place can hardly be described as ‘interesting’, with an almost total lack of visual stimulation beyond the usual corporate tat that is more of an eyesore than an enhancement. I noticed slot machines in one corner, a Scottish flag on the ceiling and that was about it. Appropriately enough, a very dull and dated soundtrack played in the background, providing a fitting accompaniment to the interior design.
The pub is a relatively safe bet for an interesting ale or two and accordingly I found three handpulls on the go, offering Belhaven 30 Shilling, Kelburn Ca’Canny and Morland Old Mulled(!) Hen. My pint of the Kelburn was decent enough but far from memorable. Interestingly, a board in the window was advertising Brewdog beers at considerably cheaper prices than in their own bar across the road.
Whilst there’s nothing particularly wrong with this place, I find it quite tricky to recommend – a result of a rather uninspiring visit where nothing much really grabbed me. Other than the comfortable furniture and passable ale selection, the pub left little impression and I would only really consider visiting again as part of a crawl.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about No 2 Baker Street

Fairly traditional corner pub, albeit with some refurbishment in the bar area. Partly opened out at some stage to leave a number of small seating / dining areas. Standard Belhaven menu. Four Greene King stable real ales were available from the eight handpumps - the local(ish) St Andrews amber ale and Old Gold whiskey aged ale (£3.80) plus Abbot and Old Speckled Hen from further south.

Unimaginatively named it may be, 2 Baker Street being the address, but this is undoubtedly one of the best pubs in Stirling. Extremely popular and therefore busy, it consists of a single, irregularly shaped, bar room, with a couple of tables outside on the pavement. It’s pricier than most of the other pubs in the city centre, with a pint of Tennent’s lager costing me £3.25, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Stella Artois, Fosters, Hoegaarden and Carling lagers are also on draught, as are Guinness and Belhaven Best. There are also four hand pumps, dispensing Lia Fail, Broughton Spring Ale, Tyneside Promise and one other which I failed to note. Food is also served This is not to be missed on any Stirling pub crawl.

This lazily named pub was previously a Hogs Head and was originally a purpose built pub dating from around 1905. The building is quite eyecatching and stands on a corner plot in the City centre with a sweep of arches, gables and a protruding corner doorway making it quite inviting.

The interior has been opened up but retains a few thick pillars creating less of an open plan than it could have been. The décor is quite standard with afew old pictures mixed in with copious posters advertising the food and drink offers. There is some pavement seating at the front of the pub.

The pub is part of the Greene King group with 4 ales available on my visit (doubled up across 8 hand pumps) - Greene King IPA, Abbott, Belhaven IPA and Herok & Howells Festival Ale. The quality was good (they are Cask Marque accredited) and prices very reasonable. I also ate here from a standard but well priced (main meals £6-£9) pub grub selection. There was a decent enough ambience with a good mix of locals and tourists and friendly efficient service.

From my experience, this is one of the better options in town although, to be fair, the local competition isn’t terribly strong.

This pub is just up the hill from the train station.
Once inside here we could see one large room which was split into different areas there may have been another room but it was very busy and we stayed near the entrance.
There was a good choice of beers here with four real ales on the bar we had a drink of Inveralmond Ossian this was a decent drink the other beers were Inveralmond Lia Fail, London Pride and Old Speckled Hen.
This was a decent pub with decent beer and we would have enjoyed our drink here more if we could have got a seat.
