David Ross left this review about The Old Wherry Tavern

A wherry, in case you didn't know, is a light rowing boat for carrying passengers and goods, formerly on rivers, or something similar. This explains the pub name, as it sits on the shore of the Firth of Clyde (or would do if it wasn't for the interruption of the railway line from Gourock to Glasgow). It's quite a charmingly old fashioned pub, although some refurbishment might not go amiss, and mainly populated by elderly gentlemen. In view of this, it was surprisingly pricey, with Guinness selling at £3.40 a pint. The limited range of other draught drinks on offer features only Tennent's lager, Tennent's Special and Magner's cider. In keeping with the clientele, 1950s and 1960s pop music was playing at a low level and the assorted bric-a-brac decorating the walls and shelves was largely of the old fashioned variety. Nevertheless, I liked this place and found it a welcome change from the deluge of overmodernized bar/lounges which are so prevalent nowadays.
