Sited in a turreted building, this is a tidy codger pub with a fairly intact 70s(?) refurb and is quite plush with dark wood, carpet and half octagonal banquettes. A unique feature is the central wood and glass circular unit with quarter dividers which is where we took our pew. The Trampoline World Championship on the telly was captivating the punters. A good pint of the single cask, TT Landlord (NBSS 3.5 - so well-worth the GBG listing), watched-over by a single-minded wee sausage dug. We enjoyed this one and it was voted the best in show for Perth that evening. Point of note – previously called Dickens and Central Bar.

David Ross left this review about Dickens

Across the road from the Robert Burns Lounge, the Dickens might be named in honour of one of England’s, rather than Scotland’s, best loved writers. There doesn’t appear to be any particular literary connection, however, although the quaint, dimly lit, high ceilinged bar room, with its numerous recesses, could be considered vaguely Dickensian. Old beer barrels supplement tables and chairs and bar stools as places to drink at. It is clearly dog-friendly, with three dogs, all with different owners, roaming around at the same time. Guinness cost £3.40 a pint and McEwan’s Export, Belhaven Best, Tennent’s lager and Magners cider are also on draught. In addition, there is an impressive and exotic whisky menu, with malts from Japan, India, Sweden and Africa (it doesn’t say which country), in addition to about 50 Scottish ones.

A Victorian turreted pub on the corner of a crossroads in the centre of Perth. Inside the high ceiling bar has a number of small dividing screens with curved high back upholstered seating around each table. Numerous single malt whisky containers are dotted about at high level together with other whisky related paraphanalia. The back of the bar has a huge range of malts to chose from. There is on hand pump which had Inveralmond Brewery Independence ale in good condition on our visit. Background music is played at a reasonably loud but not too annoying level. Worth calling in on the way to or from the Greyfriars pub.
