It's always a good idea, I think, in a tourist orientated town, to find the place, or places, where the locals drink. In Callander, the best example of this is the Back Bar of the Dalgair House Hotel. The Main Street entrance to the Hotel leads to a Bistro, but if you venture up the alleyway to the right hand side of it you'll find the real bar. It consists of an L-shaped main bar room with two other sections off it, one of which contains a pool table. There is also a beer garden at the side. It was very lively on both the Saturday and Sunday nights I drank in it. With Guinness selling at £3.20 a pint, it was better value than most of the more up market places in town. Fosters, Heineken, Tennent's and Kronenbourg lagers, Tartan Special, John Smith's and Magners and Strongbow ciders were also on draught. The food menu was also considerably cheaper than the other pubs and hotel bars in town. If you want to mix with the locals in a real pub, this is the place to go in Callander.
