The addition of Monday night musical “jam sessions” in the new lounge area adjoining the bar has added a bit of variety to The Coach House and brings in some extra customers on the least busy night of the week. It’s still a fairly sedate pub, though, still with a mainly middle aged or older clientele, which is good if you’re looking for some peace and quiet (except on Mondays). A pint of Guinness costs £3.05 and McEwan’s Export, McEwan’s 60 Shilling, Tartan Special, Tennent’s lager and Strongbow cider are also on draught.

A large building, of which only the small section occupied by the bar is now in regular use. Even this is usually fairly quiet and the clientele tends to be of the middle aged and older variety. There is only one TV and no juke box. What used to be the lounge, next door to the bar on the ground floor, has lain empty for years and seems to be rarely, if ever, opened now. The upper floor houses a spacious function suite, which seems to be mainly hired out for funerals rather than happier events. Often still known locally by its former name, “The Swan,” it can be a haven of peace and quiet, at weekends especially, from the noise and bustle of the other town centre pubs.
