Although this is the bar of a fairly up-market hotel, I felt it had just enough of a pub atmosphere to qualify as one. The entrance is separate from the doors into the hotel reception and the restaurant, and most customers in Harry’s Bar were just drinking, although you can have meals served there too. As the name suggests, there is an impressive terraced outdoor seating area, which is well illuminated at night, incorporating a children’s play area. The usual range of draught beers are on sale at, as you would expect, higher prices than the other town pubs.

This is a hotel bar, although it does have a separate entrance from the street, and of course non-residents are welcome. As a hotel bar it has more than its fair share of sofas – in fact I don’t recall seeing any normal seating. There’s no real ale of course, with Tennent’s and Belhaven keg beers, as well as lagers of course, being the staple diet here. But the bar’s a useful feature if you happen to be staying in the Tudor Hotel and it’s chucking it down with rain, as it was during my visit. As its name implies, there is a terrace at the back – conveniently covered for the smokers who were using it during my visit. All in all there’s not really very much to recommend it.
