Soup Dragon left this review about Mac's Bar

A low-level, rather featureless white rendered annex on the side of the Maclaren Hotel. Fomerly Duncan's Bar, it has a beer garden area.

The interior is an open-plan L-shaped room with the serving bar opposite the enrance. The walls are in white artex and there is a white ceiling and wood floor, along with a stone chimney feature with wood burning stove. Decoration was in the form of a few swords, Robert the Bruce and film star memorabilia, as well as some chopped wood for the fire! There were a few sofas as well as general chairs for seating. The service was fine, the clientele mixed and it was quite busy. I had a feeling it would get more younger based - as the TV had some dance music channel on it, though it was at a decent level.

Beer; no real ale - it was once in the 2002 GBG and 3 handpulls still decorate the bar, but sadly, no real ale anymore. The usual kind of tap stuff, with Peroni - i had a decent enough Belhaven Best.

A general bar with general beer, really. Ok for a swifty, or if you are happy with keg beer - but nothing for the real ale fan.
