Any self-respecting Pubman should know this one, it’s the Union flag pub which has adorned many a newspaper article over the years. Obviously had to visit, and it stands-up fine on its regular merits. Once past the flag there’s a basic traditional wood trim and blue interior – slightly shabby in places. A friendly barmaid in situ serving-up four ciders and two cask (from Dartmoor and Sharps). Decided that ‘when in Rome’ to plump for a cider, Sam's Traditional Dry which I took outside to enjoy a cracking view of Brunel’s famous Tamar Bridge which overshadows the beer garden. It's a famous pub for good reason and the 8 minute train ride from Plymouth is well worth it, especially on a clement day. 7.5

Fairly basic but friendly pub on waterside.

This pub is on the banks of the river Tamar on the Devon and Cornwall border.A Union Jack is painted and emblazoned on the whole of front of the pub, recorded as painted in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of VE day.On the east side of the pub a gigantic mural which includes old customers alongside more famous names as Sir Francis Drake and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
