An extremely well- done Greene King pub (formerly a Taylor-Walker). Lots to see - the gold and green ceiling, wood panelling, ornate dark wood island bar, comfy banquettes and jumbo brewery mirrors; I’m mildly surprised it isn’t CAMRA Heritage listed, I can only suppose almost all these features must be a fairly modern addition from its TW days. Three GK cask on the go, my Belhaven 80/- was in good shape (NBSS 3) whilst the Belhaven Black was the best choice of the keg and drank better than expected. Mildly surprised that this isn’t GBG listed, I would certainly recommend a visit on this showing. 7.5

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Central Bar

My first comment was going to be that the Central Bar has a central bar, but then I noticed the previous review! But as below, I found this reminiscent of pubs I've visited in Edinburgh. I too missed the CAMRA discount, but didn't notice a sign near the toilets.

It was busy on our Sunday lunchtime visit. Quite a few people were eating. Despite their being only 3 real ales, the beer range appears to be a bit more adventurous now. Greene King Abbot is available, in addition to Harviestoun Ptarmigan & Redcastle The Red Lady. The barman recommended and offered me a taster of the Ptarmigan, which was quite frankly vile. The Red Lady was in a much better condition, in common with most beers I had in Fife.

Will Larter left this review about Central Bar

The Central Bar, appropriately, has a central bar: a substantial one with solid wood panelling and pillars and adorned with numerous hand pumps on three sides. On closer inspection these turned out to include a number of duplicated beers (Greene King Abbot, London Glory, Old Speckled Hen and Belhaven 80/-) plus four guests. I like this sort of layout, which I think of as being typically Scottish, and the beer was in pretty good condition too. Easily the best of the three we tried on our visit to St Andrews, and I would certainly want to include it on any future trip to this delightful small city. My only gripe would be that the sign indicating that a Camra discount is available was displayed on the wall on the way to the toilets, not on the bar.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Central Bar

I was surprised by the lack of obvious pubs in the centre of St Andrews, so I was pleased to spot the Central Bar which - even from a distance - gave the impression of being the sort of place where one might expect to find a decent pint. As a Taylor Walker-branded bar, you would expect an interesting interior and so it proved to be with an attractive island bar layout, comfortable furniture and traditional decor. Small patio tables out front. Helpful staff. Beer-wise, there were many duplicates and others with "cask conditioning" labels on, so the available choice was Deuchard IPA, Pride, Old Peculier, Inveralmond Lia Fail (£3.29 including a 10% Camra discount, and in good form) and Old Rosie cider. However, at a busier time of year, one might expect a bigger selection. Overall, I thought it pretty good for a pubco chain outlet.
