An L shaped pub on the Royal Mile, the long side of the L being a "wait to be seated" restaurant the rest is a fairly small drinking area. There is a small L shaped counter in the corner with four hand pumps all beers coming from Belhaven, but not the more common brews even if they are decidedly average. Traditionally furnished the walls are even more traditional with portraits of Scottish Kings prior to James VI and there's a big extractor fan system, presumably now to keep down the foody smells. The bar canopy is decorated with bank notes of all nations but mainly US dollars. The service was acceptable for the Royal Mile.

Located on the royal mile and the name is infamous to locals as a result of the murder of 2 young women last scene alive in this pub in 1977 the bodies being discovered down the east Lothian coast. 4 real ales and food served. A large section is reserved for dining until 21:00

This is really a restaurant with the majority of the site under a wait to be seated food area. There is a small area by the bar for drinking but with its location good luck trying to get a space there.

Therefore didn't stay, but maybe worth trying if you want food in a formal setting

great pub but a bit cramped, which adds to its charm.worth reading about its history which is readily available inside.very popular with tourists and locals alike due to its proximity to the castle and the palace among others.does excellent food but be prepared to wait for a table due to its fine reputation
