The Longboat is an inn with rooms just over the road from the train & bus stations and hugely popular for food (so best get a booking in, if you're visiting in season). It's a lounge bar feel making a comfortable place for a drink, if you can find a space (I'd advise skipping the 6pm to 8pm period entirely).

The bar has 5 handles - 2 for Tribute, 1 each for Spitfire and Atlantic Pale, with the final one promising Doom Bar, but sporting a label "awaiting perfection" which, given it was in place on 2 separate visits suggested to me a polite way of saying "never available". Ciders comprise Strongbow, Inch's and a fruit flavoured Old Mout, which I suspect count for nothing among the cognoscenti. There's also a couple of big shiny fonts for Moretti and Fosters.

All in all, it's worth a stop if waiting for a train, though perhaps not the destination for a journey.

This is a long hotel bar with a low ceiling, a wooden floor with rugs and a number of screens showing the World Cup.
The five hand pumps had two Tributes, Teignworthy Beachcomber, Cornish Crown One Hop Grain and Bath Gem. I went for the Tribute (£3.95) which was in good nick.
Although I found it uninspiring and expensive, it's better than some places in Penzance.

Due to a friends train running late we popped in here for a quick half, and found good quality ale by Caledonian with a pump clip showing the beer was the Cornish name for Longboat. Staff friendly, but even though it was into the evening time, it was very quiet for such a large pub.

This is probably the largest pub in town with an expanded interior that seems to stretch all the way to Lands End. The low ceilings throughout give it a bit of a claustrophobic feel and its open plan set upmeans there is little in the way of intimacy. Wood feateres predominantly throughout which does make for a fairly old world feel although I would hazard a guess that the interior is a fairly modern refurbishment. Beers are mainly Greene King with 3 pumps bearing Speckled Hen clips, and 1 each of Ruddles County and Doom Bar (which was unavailable despite the clip not being reversed). I didn't recall it being particularly expensive and the quality was fine to me. There are multiple screens, mainly for sport and a separate pool room at the rear. Various forms of entertainment from the good to the bad are advertised on a board outside. A separate dining room is also located at the side in the front of the pub. Before we visited we had walked past a few times and it was never even close to being busy which measna distinct lack of atmosphere in such a vast place which is a shame because it really isn't such a bad place and certainly worth popping in for a couple of pints.
