Quite a beautiful pub...

A flying visit but much enjoyed. Didn't have a beer, but thought whilst in Scotland, it would be a malt.

Attractive and old fashioned local with what seemed to have a pleasant and convivial atmosphere.Found the pub clean and cosy with the large amount of dark wood and Chesterfield upholstery. There was an interesting choice of 5 cask beers to opt for which made my stay more enjoyable. This is another pub I would have liked to have spent a little more time in.
Worth a visit

If you're visiting Edinburgh, there's every chance that you'll be staying in Newington (the A701 in the area seems to be lined with neighbouring B&Bs). If that's the case for you, an evening in the Old Bell isn't a bad option.

Brightly lit inside, and definitely playing on the 'Bell' theme in the name, it's a comfortable, well-maintained pub with plenty of seating areas. Five good ales are offered. Food is available both at the bar and at the upstairs restaurant.

Not sure you'd need to hop on a bus out of the centre just to visit, but definitely worth an hour or two if you're in the area.

An ancient looking pub in an ancient looking building, with an appropriately olde worlde feel inside. Low level lighting, dark decor and secluded corners add to the atmosphere. Real ales and bar meals are available, although the "New Bell" restaurant upstairs is part of the same establishment. Being about a mile south of the city centre, it is less tourist orientated than the pubs there, but is well worth a visit if you're in the area.
