One of the many pubs in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh. Maggie Dickson’s is a speciality in its choice of whisky. With 10 from the Islands range such as Highland Park & Talisker. With 13 form Islay, such as Ardbeg &Port Charlotte. With 25 from the Speyside region such as Cardhu & Scallywag. A smaller choice o5 from the Lowland region such as Haig Club & Sheep Dip. Plus 18 from the Highland region such as Edradour & Tomatin. On draught there is Tennents & Stella to name a few. There is a choice of 5 Scottish Ales such as Hurricane Jack & Red McGregor. Also 5 Scottish gins & 4 Edinburgh gins.

Pretty Hopeless - no real ales on. Whiskies very expensive. A bunch of high tables with stools and the weirdest ambient chill out type music coming from the speakers at a volume that was slightly too high. Only went in as the Last Drop was empty.

Avoid - plenty better in the area.

I came in here for a drink quite late on a Friday night, as it was one of the few places in the Grassmarket I could get into without my backpack being searched. It was extremely busy and some of the clientele looked a bit on the rough side (certainly by Edinburgh standards). I suppose the atmosphere suits the ghoulish story behind the name (as mentioned in the first review below), but I didn't feel too comfortable in it. There are many much nicer pubs nearby, although they do all tend to be busy, especially at weekends.

This is a long narrow bar, which opens up into a more roomy seating area at the far end. Definitely one of the tourist pubs and like most has a story behind the name. The eponymous Maggie was hanged outside the pub and allegedly came back to life on the way to the funeral and was pardoned.
