The Crown is the back streets tap for the Cornish Crown Brewery, and a justifiably busy pub, with a good crowd in most evenings, hosting events such as music nights and quizzes to keep the numbers up (so you may have to check the calendar if you fancy a quiet time there).

They offer 3 of their own ales over the handpumps and a several more on the keg taps. There's a good number of tables outside and the street sees little traffic, so makes a good alternative to the comfortable seating indoors.

Definitely a must visit for the beer lover who's made their way all the way down here and obviously popular with the natives as well.

This is a tiny corner local that is the Brewery Tap for the Cornish Crown brewery which I thought was one of the better Cornwall breweries. The bar room is tiny being little different in size to a micropub while the room at the rear has enough room for just two tables.
The four hand pumps on the bar had three from Cornish Crown, SPA, Porter & St Michaels plus VOG Decadence. I went for the SPA (£3.20) which was an excellent pint.
I liked this one and it's GBG 2016 listed.

A nice Victorian end terrace pub, with patio area and both in the GBG for its beer and home to the Crown Brewery. The pub is in white, with black paintwork and is somewhat plain excepting the large sash windows it boasts. The interior has a small front room and an even small back one. The front room is in white, with a red ceiling and wood floor. A large mirror dominates the room. The back room is a arty bistro dining area - there was nobody in. Obviously they do food, but we didn't eat. There was no TV that i saw and the background music was general and at a soft level. The service was really friendly and there were a few locals in, including the brewer. Beer; usual tap stuff with 4 hanpulls - Crown Mousehole and SPA were on, both well kept - the SPA especially so. Also, there were two guests, the pub having done a swap - these guests were from the Black Country Ales Brewery - talk about a busman's holiday! Anyhow, they had BFG and a decent Pig on the Wall MILD, so not complaining. A great little stop off - thoroughly enjoyed. Happy to go back anytime.

Called in just after lunchtime and it was quiet. Had Otter Ale and Bays Best and they were fine. The other beer on was Skinners Betty Stogs. The only thing that was offputting for me was the fishy smell. Presume the couple finishing their lunch must have had fish, but it was overpowering. Went into the back room to finish our drinks. Always call in when visiting Penzance. There are some tables outside the entrance by the road.

The above was in May 2010, and we went yesterday for a beer festival, and it was fantastic. Choice of beers from Cornish breweries including new ones over the last year and all in great condition. We enjoyed 3 beers new to us from their own Cornish Crown brewery - St Michaels Bitter, and from Frys Brewery - Blond Chough and Ruby Chough. Also had a few really good Blue Anchor Spingo Middle beers. Well done the Crown. £3 a pint and no rip off for half pints like we have found elsewhere this visit to Cornwall.

Quinno _ left this review about Crown Inn

A funny little corner local (I thought corner locals were meant to be large?!?) - dead near the main shopping street but feels like a good mile away outside. The interior seems very spartan, looks like it's had a make-over from a nicotine-stained old boozer a couple of years back. The arrangements of furniture, as mentioned elsewhere, feels haphazard and rather cramped. Everyone can see you business as they're often no more than a couple of feet away from you and your beer.

The beer itself is good - three ales on (a Skinners, Otter and Keltik Magik on my visit) which were certainly in decent nick - no complaints there. As also mentioned by RogerB, the bar layout isn't the best, it's hard to see what's on if busy. Whilst I (for 'I' read Mrs Quinno) appreciate the coffee machine, perhaps its best stored elsewhere?

So to sum up, it's a strange little place. I certainly didn't feel too comfy in there and wouldn't fancy a session. The beer's good, the landlord seemed a decent lad and the place is clean but overall it just didn't click with me. Perhaps it needs time to bed in. I'll give it a 7 because at least the beer range is imaginative and good quality which would be just enough to draw me back in again.

Roger Button left this review about Crown Inn

This small back street local seems to have more of an upmarket feel to it and certainly won't appeal to allcomers. The interior is not much bigger than the average living room with 4 rather cramped tables. The décor is plain and simple with little focus although the large mirror on the far wall does at least make it appear a bit more spacious than it really is. There is a second smaller bar to the rear which for some reason was empty despite the rest of the pub being pretty packed. The bar is quite badly laid out with a coffee machine in the most prominent position whilst the ale pumps were tucked away at one side making it hard to see the clips through the throngs congregated at the bar. The ales are very good and reasonably priced; Keltak Magic, Heligan Honey and Otter and that is reason eough to pay a visit. The music veered from obscure reggae fusion to difficult jazz and was certainly not the appropriate accompaniment if you are nursing a sore head. There was an eclectic mix of people and it is hard to see what attracts some of them to the place. It is the sort of pub you have to vist to make up your own mind – reviews won't help you much!
