Brainy Pool left this review about The Holyrood 9A

a pub with a surprisingly traditional interior and what appeared to be original Victorian features. Sort of resembled a middle class Wetherspoons with lots of families, dogs and kids on an afternoon. Decent selection of keg, craft and continental though the cask chalkboard was sadly empty. Not a bad place.

Located just off the main royal mile tourist drag. 4 real ales and 21 "craft keg" and standard keg beers/lagers served as well as food. Meet the brewer nights advertised.

Excellent place, sufficiently far from the main sights to avoid getting too packed with tourists. On the other hand, it's large enough inside to accommodate those who do come, as well as beer-lovers looking for a wide range of craft beer from Scotland and further afield.

Bar service was helpful and knowledgeable, with advice and a taster freely offered. You need that when there's 20-odd beers to choose from (most, if not all, of these will be keg, in case that bothers you). The main thrust of the food menu is burgers: these are are good quality and very fairly priced. Table service is to the same high standard as the bar.

Definitely worth a visit if trekking between the Old Town sights up the hill and the Scottish Parliament (or after a day doing the same).

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Holyrood 9A

I came across this place by chance, following a bracing walk over the Salisbury Crags in Holyrood Park, and it not having been reviewed here before I had no idea what to expect behind the rather plain frontage. What you get, however, is a craft beer bar and restaurant the equal of any of the more famous venues of this ilk around the U.K. Behind the bar, there is an array of 16 interesting keg beers and ciders plus four real ale taps (but whether these are gravity or air pressure I forgot to ask). The chalk boards above one of the doors also listed the next guest beers coming on. The layout comprises an irregular-shaped bar with further seating to one side and a dining area to the rear. Being spoilt for choice, I eventually opted for the 6.2% BrewDog Winter Porter (£2.00 for a half, dense and full of flavour - just the job on a cold winter's day). Overall, well worth seeking out (just off the Holyrood end of the Royal Mile).
