Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Greenmantle Inn

Only had time for a flying visit to this compact bar, but the traditional interior and lively atmosphere certainly made a good impression. Three of the four handpumps were in action, with Hobgoblin, Flipside Russian Rouble stout (7.3%, £2.00, half) and Old Rosie cider on offer. Will try to visit again when more time available...

Called in the other night when three beers were on hand pump: Wychwood Hobgoblin, Caldedonian Flying Scotsman and Edinburgh Gold, with Old Rosie cider on the fourth. It was quite busy, but so many people were eating chips that the air smelled strongly of salt and vinegar, which completely put me off the idea of having a drink, so we went elsewhere.

The Greenmantle Pub on Nicholson Street in Edinburgh is a friendly, welcoming pub that serves fantastic real ales and delicious food. This traditional Scottish pub has been given a modern twist with trendy decor and student-friendly deals but is suitable for anyone whether you want a quiet pint of quality real ale, a bite to eat, a pre-dinner/theatre drink or a good night full of banter the Greenmantle has it all. With a weekly games night on Mondays, Quiz night on Tuesdays, live music on Thursday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons and a poker night every Sunday it really does has something for everyone.

The food really sets the pub apart from others in the area with home-made soups, chilli, Shetland Bannocks and red onion marmalade to accompany their tasty Buffalo Burgers and Sausages from Puddledub farm in Fife along with a credit-crunch-busting 2 for £7 menu.
The Greenmantle is the Southside’s answer to a cracking pub

Mark Hyson left this review about Greenmantle Inn

Located in a busy part of Edinburgh heavily populated by a variety of pubs lies this hidden gem.

There are three things which one looks for in a pub; Good beer, Good food, Good atmosphere - this pubs management and staff deliver all in abundance.

The pub has a wide selection of beers, the highlight of which being three guest ales which change at the end of every barrel - a delight for all real ale drinkers.

Despite the pubs diminutive size, it delivers honest quality pub food at very reasonable prices. The highlight being the Buffalo Burgers (the only pub in Edinburgh to sell such).

The Greenmantle also delivers in terms of entertainment. There are a wide range of weekly events on in the pub from "Open mic" to "Folk night", "Wii/X-box nights" to "Poker Nights".

The pub is also reknowned for being Edinburghs unofficial Shetland pub, and the Shetland nights are a must for Shetlanders, as its residents come from all over Scotland to join in the party.

The Greenmantle has excelled itself since opening, in being a very customer focussed pub, truly offering customers quality service and continues to be a pub doing things their own way . . . which so far looks to be the right way
