Back to the Star & Garter monicker nowadays, this a * CAMRA Heritage pub. Long, dim and extremely narrow interior without much of interest – head to the rear area through a pair of pretty glazed doors which houses a small Saloon Bar. “This is a little altered inter-war bar with a late 1930s panelled bar counter, a three-bay Art Deco mirrored gantry with cupboards either side. There is panelling on the walls to picture frame height and stained and leaded exterior windows” says the CAMRA NI site. It was certainly a pleasant area to sit for a drink. One cask available, a local brew via Law Brewing called IPA, which was below par (NBSS 2.5) but drinkable. The jumbo range of craft mentioned before has now been done away with. Worth popping in for a nose at the rear room but there isn’t much to keep you detained after one. 6.5

Formerly a keg only bar called the Star and Garter it re-opened in December 2018 as another Scottish outlet from the Stonehaven craft brewer Six Degree North. It doesn’t look like they changed the fine traditionally-furnished interior much and this thin bar has some green leather seating to the front and some decorative glass panels to the rear separating the small saloon room at the back. What they did put in is 24 craft taps along the bar and a couple of flat screens which detail what is on them. For my visit this included twelve of their own beers and then the majority of the others were from other Scottish craft brewers like Drygate with a couple of single beers from Siren and Magic Rock.
I tried one of the stouts from Six degrees and to be honest it wasn’t one of the best I’ve had. But again with the majority of bars in Dundee still dispensing the standard draft products that were available in the old Star and Garter, this is another good addition for increasing beer choice in Dundee.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Dynamo Dundee

Craft beer outlet with a narrow bar and a small saloon at the back. Both parts are quite traditional in appearance, especially with the dark-wood bar-backs, but this one is definitely aimed at a younger market. No real ale on handpump, although it is not possible to determine whether any of the 24 taps are key-keg or just keg. However, the choice of styles from owners Six°North and a wide range of guests is very impressive, and I enjoyed my pint of Skeleton Blues US wheat beer (£4.85).

David Ross left this review about The Star & Garter

This consists of a long, narrow, dark bar with a tiny lounge through a door at the back. There is a good range of beer on draught, including McEwan's 80 Shilling, Guinness, Belhaven Best, McEwan's IPA and Tennent's, Stella Artois and Heverlee lagers, as well as Magner's cider. With the exception of the uninspiring Tay Bar on the platform, this is, probably, the nearest pub to Dundee Railway Station, which is worth knowing if you're travelling to the city by train.
