Quinno _ left this review about Clep Bar

Another *** CAMRA Heritage pub in Dundee, built during WWII. An impressive tiled and squatly imposing exterior. Enter to a main bar (getting a light renovation on my visit) with lovely old snug off right – look out for the lovely glasswork in the doors and windows plus the heavy wood fittings. Overtly friendly service which was nice given that me and my missus stood-out like a sore thumb with our obvious English accent. No cask available, so a keg Belhaven 70/- was my tipple of choice which was enjoyed the in the snug. Worth the trip up the hill for.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Clep Bar

Built as part of a housing scheme by Edinburgh brewers Bernard's in 1941 (and thus a very rare wartime new-build), set high up above the city in Hilltown. Very well-preserved interior with 2/3rd-height wood panelling in the public bar and a splendid little front lounge (featuring a hatch in a door rather than a counter, and famously retaining its operational bell-pushes). Walls adorned with sporting memorabilia relating to local heroes (and in some cases, former customers). Getting busy in the bar before the nearby football on this visit, but ignoring the temporary 'home supporters only' notice on the door, I took refuge in the lounge with my pint of McEwan's 70/- (£3.20), grateful once again that treasures such as this still exist in the 21st century. Although the lack of real ale is a shame, it offers a friendly welcome and is run by people with a real interest in the heritage features, and thus it's well worth making a special visit.
