David Ross left this review about The Maybole Arms

Occupying the lower floor of the two storey building, the Maybole Arms consists of an L-shaped bar/lounge with a games room containing a pool table, dart board and games machines in one leg of the L. The well stocked trophy cabinet suggests that the pub takes its sports and games seriously. There were two TVs, one showing football and the other rugby (it was Saturday afternoon) and a juke box. A very impressive collection of foreign banknotes adorns the walls along with various photographs. Considering the comfortable and pleasant surroundings, prices were very reasonable. A pint of Guinness cost me £2.90 and McEwan’s 60 Shilling, John Smith’s Smoothflow, Fosters and Tennent’s lagers and Strongbow cider were also on draught. Bar meals are sold from noon until 8.00 p.m. daily and food prices are also inexpensive. All in all, this is probably the best pub in the ancient capital of Carrick.
