Soup Dragon left this review about Ship & Castle

This is a terraced pub. The pub is in the historic village area of Loughor, so has had buildings on the site possibly back to the Roman period (yes, the castle lies within a former Roman fort). The current building looks Victorian, but will likely have older elements in the core. It now looks tired, with its cream render peeling away. There is a front facing gable, string courses and some pilasters, but the entrance has been modified to look like a ships wheel (with the use of keystones) as, in part, has been the central upper window. The interior has three areas. At the back, there is a restaurant area, with tables and a wood floor - but curiously, a dart board too. The mid section has red Chesterfield sofas and is in red and cream, with old indentures on the walls. The front bar area is in coffee and has a TV (daytime stuff) There was no music and no other people were in. The service was friendly, I had a good chat to the owner. Beer; usual tap stuff with a decent enough Doombar on handpull. A friendly enough pub, which needs some TLC on the outside. Basic beer choice, but the one real ale was fine enough, if ubiquitous.
