My review below was written on hearing the news that the pub, under the management of Marstons, had closed. It has now reopened with a new name and a fresh approach to beer and food. (See photo for beer range at the time of my visit.) I went for the Siren Undercurrent, having also tasted the other Siren beer and shunned the offerings from Vale of Glamorgan and Tiny Rebel. My companions all chose Cwtch, which I cannot stand, though clearly many people love it, as I heard no complaints. I didn't see any sign of the large screen they used to have (opposite the bar) for live sports being shown on TV, with the pub seemingly now aiming for slightly upmarket diners and beer connoisseurs, just a smaller one near the bar counter, but it may all change at other times of day, of course.

I can remember coming here a few times soon after the turn of the century, when I had to be in Cardiff on business from time to time. This was a Tomos Watkin pub then, and the excellent beer was matched by a fine atmosphere. I can well remember how surprised I was, when there was a European football match on one night, that almost everyone in the pub was supporting Liverpool. That aside, it was a splendid pub in those days. I wonder what went wrong?

Nice bar on the left as you walk in, 6 HPs, 3 off the other 3 from the Marstons range included Banks Original and Hobgoblin, both in top form. Worlds Biggest Liar changed to Snecklifter on the second round. Quite open plan, with raised area on the right as you walk in. Very busy, beer in good nick, recommended
