Externally this doesn't look very promising as it has some tacky old plastic Carling signage. It takes up the ground floor of what I assume is a three story Victorian town house. Inside it's a single square carpeted room with some beams and the bar on the right. On my morning visit there were a few friendly locals in putting the world to rights. The lady behind the bar was friendly and keen to explain to the assembled throng what "twerking" and "planking" were. I knew what twerking was but hadn't heard of planking which she went on to demonstrate by lying face down on the bar room floor. Apparently the main point of this is to do it in as unusual a place as possible so the floor of the Railway Tavern in Newtown seemed an excellent choice.
On to more important things, the bar has just three hand pumps. Sadly two of these were given over to products by the global Mouldy Corpse in the form of Bass and Worthington. Happily the third option was Salopian Darwin's Oracle (£2.95) for which I had time to stop for two and was in excellent condition.
I thought this was a great little pub despite the limited beer choice. It is GBG 2015 listed.
