An odd ramshackle place serving the local villages. The interior feels like it’s a bodge DIY job - was cold and smelt of damp, confirmed by a trip to the gents which frankly should be knocked-down and re-constituted. There’s a lot of modern art work on display which you can buy (some of it is done by the landlord himself, so I read). Pool and darts in situ. Perhaps surprisingly there was a cask ale, even more surprisingly it was a micro from far afield (Crafty Brewing) and perhaps even more surprisingly, it was quite drinkable (NBSS 3). One other customer watching football on his phone (I got the feeling a comment was passed between him and the landlord about us at least once - us group of strangers were hardly greeted with warmth) until a bunch of the local yoof ambled in. A strange place all-round; the views outside are very pretty so a summer’s al fresco pint might be worthwhile but the interior feels rather unwelcoming. 4.5

Small cosy pub, dog friendly, free house has a couple of real ales on all the time and a good range of bottled beers, has its own beer festival annually
