By a narrow margin the best pub in Llanidloes, in my estimation, but only for its interesting and well-preserved layout. On Camra's national inventory, so worth seeking out. The bar is in a small room on the right off the central corridor, with two hand pumps which were serving Wye Valley Butty Bach and Brains Reverend James at the time of my visit, and nothing to suggest that other beers are ever available. On my Saturday night visit there was an interesting crowd, with a group of young women on my left and a handful of old men on my right, the latter regarding the former rather like a cat would a goldfish bowl, or a fox a chicken coop.

Other items of interest include a handsome Crown & Anchor mirror behind the bar, and a framed list of Llanidloes pubs on the wall to the left (see photos). It's not clear how old the list may be - there are 41 pubs on it, so clearly some considerable time has passed since it was compiled.

Superb, totally unspoilt pub that features on CAMRA's National Inventory of historic pub interiors. Run by the same landlady since 1965. Interior comprises five small rooms divided by a central corridor. Open all day, but doesn't serve any food. On my visit real ale range was Hancock's HB and Brain's Reverend James.
