I was here on the evening of the old Queen's funeral and it was fairly quiet when I arrived, though getting noisier. Four hand pumps on the bar, with Purple Moose Glaslyn, Wye Valley Butty Bach and Greene King Abbot. I went for the Glaslyn on the basis that it wasn't as strong as the others - I noticed one or two locals were getting stuck in to the Abbot. There was a good atmosphere here and I would always call in here when in Llani, despite my disparaging remarks made about the refurb in 2016.

Although the beer offering has changed since my review of 2013, with Greene King Abbot now flanked by localish Three Tuns Pale and Wye Valley Butty Bach, the pub has unfortunately had an internal refurbishment which has caused it to lose a lot of the character that it had. Only the chimney breast remains unaffected, and that is sadly not enough to make up for the prevalence of plastic everywhere else.

A fairly ordinary local with standard furniture and decor, the only distinguishing feature a chimney breast that has been stripped of its plaster, revealing that it had been cobbled together from a mixture of stone and brick. On the bar a rather unadventurous collection of foreign beers: Everards Tiger, Greene King Abbot and Shepherd Neame Spitfire. I had a half of Tiger, which was OK but I'd much rather have had a local beer - to me that's one of the interesting things about travelling around the country and visiting pubs. Are the people of Llanidloes really crying out for beers from Leicestershire, Suffolk and Kent?
