I was last in Tremadog in 2009 and only visited the Golden Fleece, which is situated directly opposite across the Market Square. I remember seeing the Union Inn, but it wasn't on my agenda for that day! This time, I entered to find two rooms with stone walls either side of the entranceway. A central bar serves a real ale (Glaslyn) and a real cider (Rosie's Pig Strawberry & Elderflower). A couple of locals were present, whilst a couple of other visitors also arrived after me.

The Union Inn has replaced the Golden Fleece as Tremadog's pub of choice in the Good Beer Guide, but based on my experiences in both, there is little to choose between them. Be careful of opening times. I believe the pub only opens in the evening during the week.

One of the two pubs in Tremadog which face each other across the square, this two-bar building has more of a 70’s hotel vibe about it. A comfy, plush place (carpeted, obviously warm and well-lit) with half-boarded burgundy walls, one of which was entirely of exposed stone. We sat in the L-shaped right hand bar which had a little alcove room to the rear which sported a number of board games. Three ale pumps but just one on (local Purple Moose Cwrw Eryri) which came out well enough; expected others given it was GBG but maybe this is one where they have more on the weekends? 1085 Snowdon lager was also advertised, which I have since found out is brewed by Great Orme so a shame I missed out on trying it as I assumed it’d be a re-branded national lager or something from Brains. Initially it was Jazz FM or somesuch on the piped radio which was replaced by the football a little later on. Food was offered and a couple of people were eating by the bay window. Got a ‘cheerio’ from one of the locals as we exited which was nice.

a great welcome from Charlotte and her mum in this family pub. Good pub food, especially good curries. Lots of homemade food which is served lunchtime and evenings. They have a restaurant as well as the pub itself.
