Blue Scrumpy left this review about Royal Sportsman Hotel
Hotel with a bar and restaurant in the centre of Porthmadog. The receptionist doubled as the barmaid, but with only 2 other customers present, it didn't seem too hard a job. The bar is off to the left as you enter, with a dining room beyond that to the rear of the premises.
Seinethyn was the solitary real ale. I didn't try it, as I'd already had it earlier in the day elsewhere.
This place seems like quite a nicely appointed hotel, but as a bar, it's purely a hotel bar with little character.

The Gelert's bar here is open to non-residents and is a long narrow room on the left side of the hotel with the bar running down the right side of it. There is a garden somewhere further back that is advertised as available to non-residents. Some hotel bars can be a bit snooty but this one seemed OK with a few locals in on my afternoon visit.
On the bar there were Purple Moose Snowdonia and Glaslyn. The Glaslyn (£3.10) was in very good nick although a bit on the expensive side.
It's well worth using this place to break the walk between the town's two railway stations.

Andy Ven left this review about Royal Sportsman Hotel
Hotel with a bar called Gelert’s Bar. The wallpaper was a light pink coloured blown vinyl style, the carpet was red and blue. Background entertainment on this particular lunchtime was in the form of Radio 2.
We popped in for food and this looked like a safe bet, which it was albeit at hotel prices. Cask ales were Purple Moose Glaslyn Ale and Snowdonia Ale. On tap there was M&B Mild, Carling, Boddington’s, Fosters, Budweiser, Guinness, Strongbow, Worthington and Stella.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Royal Sportsman Hotel
One of the most substantial buildings in Poirthmadog with an interesting frontage, this hotel has the surprisingly plainly furnished Gelert's Bar offering reasonably-priced food in addition to the main restaurant (and a patio area in the unlikely event that it is not raining!). Two handhamps offering Snowdonia and Glaslyn Ales from the excellent local Bragdy Mws Piws (Purple Moose Brewery).
