I was really glad to see this pub come back to life. In younger days, this was a regular lunchtime watering hole, and full of people. Then it died away and for ages was all boarded up and looked terrible in the middle of a busy university town. The new people deserve success - decent beer, Porthleven my favourite, but HSD available, which seems hard to find these days. The food is really good - I had chicken provencale, which was great. Staff are friendly, too. I'll come back!

The Kings is situated in a kink in the road where Church Street turns into Arwenack Street.
Once inside there is a roughly oblong shaped room with the bar on the rear left side, the floor is bare boarded.
There are normal tables and chairs and tall tables and chairs plus a drinking shelf, there is a small area to the front which is carpeted and has settees on it.
I was surprised to see any real ales on the bar,but there were three on,we had a drink of Rebel Surfbum IPA,which was a decent drink, the other real ales were Skinners Porthleven and Bath Ales Jem.
Loud music was playing and it started to fill up as it was getting later on a Saturday night.
We left to get our last few drinks in The Seaview.
This pub caters for locals who are going for a night out.

A large Georgian styled pub with multiple sash windows, which i assume was once an hotel. The building is in white with coffee ashlar blocks and a nice entrance porch. The interior is a massive open plan room with a central island serving bar. Also in white and coffee, with a wood floor, there is a nice stone fireplace with a burner. There are lots of mirrors on the walls and the furniture a mix of sofas one side and settles the other. The odd barrel is dotted about for interest. There is a pool table. The service was fine and the clientele just one guy - so it felt as empty as Liberal Party conference. The multiple TVs were not on and the music was youngish, but at a decent level. Beer; usual tap stuff with Hobgoblin and a decent Skinner's Betty Stoggs on handpull. It lacked atmosphere, but the beer was fine, so would visit again.
