A stop-off for food on a packed Saturday and the place was just about holding together under the stress and the staff were doing a good job. Felt like there’s been a few changes from my review back in 2011, perhaps there’s been a bit of tinkering, perhaps the Spoons comment below is fair. I noticed there were some nice stained glass windows I assume I missed from last time. Busy, noisy and bustling with fellow diners (this was the only place in the village with any capacity) so I didn’t necessarily see it at its best. 3x Brains cask at the bar and my Bread of Heaven was in good nick (NBSS 3). Also tried, and enjoyed, the Brains keg stout.

May 2011
A lovely, imposing façade gives way to a rambling patchwork quilt of an interior. At least four different areas/rooms, each with a different sort of theme (traditional wood and booths at the rear, new sports lounge element at the front right, restaurant room front left etc) this is clearly set up to try and absorb as much of the summer trade as possible, set as it is on the seafront terrace by the beach. Two Brains ales on the go (Bitter and SA Gold) which were in decent nick. I found it a bit schizophrenic but if it keeps the place afloat then fair enough. Rated 6

Another of Brains food led large pub / hotels with multiple eating / drinking areas with Brains version of the Wetherspoons laminated card of delightful cheap eats on every table. Can’t improve on the reviews below except to add that the outside drinking area to the back is a nice spot in the evening sun.
This clearly is set up to make as much from the tourist trade as possible, but unlike the equivalent Brains place in Aberaevon where we were staying, the staff had a bit more about them here and the beer was actually well kept
Same three Brains beers available as below, and as we were blessed with a fine weather day I went for the SA which was a well kept pint.

This is one of two hotels in Aberdyfi owned by Brain's the South Wales brewer.
It consists of one large open room with a central bar and wooden floors.
This is divided into different sections with a raised area at the back and areas either side.
Three Brain's beers were available Bitter, Rev James and SA Gold. I went for the bitter (£2.75) which was in very good nick and a much better pint than I remembered from the distant past. This seemed a decent enough pub but it was empty on my winter midday visit.

I L left this review about The Dovey Inn

This pub is right in the centre of Aberdovery, overlooking the waterfront. There are at least three separate drinking areas with a covered smoking area out the rear entrance that overlooks the village centre. Its aBbrains owned establishemtn with 2 Brains ales on at the time of our visit and a very friendly landlord. There is a good selection of food available here. Fairly quiet on our visit, immediatley after Christmas but suspect it does get busy during the Summer. Accommodation is also available.
