Perhaps smaller inside than the exterior suggests. Locals boozer in an L-shaped interior with three rooms knocked-through into a thoroughly unsatisfying whole. The roadside area has a slightly naff mushroom painted section and with darts and a Celtic languages flag hung. Down a step to a pleasingly curved corner bar with a nice bare stone wall room to left, the old lounge probably. A Marston house with three of theirs on; Pedigree (NBSS 3.5), Wainwright (NBSS 2.5, slightly musty) and Hobgoblin. Out front is a beer garden overlooking the bridge and the castle, which is where most of the punters were but after spending the previous few hours in the sun, we opted for shade. Not a bad stop in the context of the town.

We parked up in the smallish car park at the side of the mill pond for the castle and was attracted by the outside chalk boards proclaiming The George to be a Camra GBG listed pub with guest beers and after a bit of a journey a decent pint was certainly in order so we ventured in.
Somehow I had managed to blank the other external chalk board proclaiming that the current guest beer was Marstons Pedigree. But it was, and this complemented the other two pumps of Banks bitter and Hobgoblin. So no fault of the Royal George and this may well be a great differential choice for the Brains dominated punters of Pembroke, but is unfortunately a fairly ubiquitous choice for my home town. Anyway my pint of Banks was very well kept and the George is a fairly inoffensive two bar pub with a lounge area and then games room dominated by a pool table.
