Blackthorn _ left this review about Castle Hotel

A traditional looking, stone built pub in the centre of this pleasant village, it consists of a couple of bars at the front of the pub along with a separate restaurant area. At the rear is a small courtyard and beer garden, which includes a few chickens scratching around in a coup at the end.

The right hand bar has lemon yellow paintwork on the upper part of the walls and wood panelling lower down along with some sort of laminate floor. A table skittles game was in here as well as pictures of local sports teams and various beer advertisements on the end of wooden barrels. There were a few black beams on the ceiling and an old black iron fire-place. A projector screen was at one end, although this was rolled up and not in use on our visit. The central bar area looked to be broadly similar décor wise but with some exposed stone walling whilst the wood panelled restaurant was off to the left. A leather sofa and a couple of arm chairs were at one end.

Beers on tap were Moho and Hoodwinked from Mantle, Double Dragon and Dragon’s Heat from Felinfoel and Wye Valley’s Butty Bach. Cider’s meanwhile were Somersby, Strongbow and Thatcher’s Gold, the latter of which was certainly an improvement on the rest of the pubs in the village. Overall I quite liked this pub, and had we been staying any longer in Newport I would have popped back in to sample the food.
